چکیده
A 38−year−old Chinese woman presented to our hospital, complaining of a 3−month history of black stool passage and dizzi− ness. Laboratory test results included he− moglobin, 40 g/L (normal: 120 ±160 g/L); red blood cell count, 2.08 1012/L (4.0± 5.5 1012/L); white cell count, 15.48 109/ L (4.0 ± 10.0 109/L); eosinophils, 30.1 % (0.5 %± 5 %); platelet count, 424 109/L (100± 300 109/L). Stool examination was positive for occult blood while nega− tive for ova and parasites. Both upper gas− trointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy showed negative results. Other biochem− istry examination results, including elec− trolytes, and liver and renal functions were within normal limits. The patient underwent transfusion of four units of packed red blood cells. A capsule endos− copy (OMOM; Chongqing Jinshan Scien− ce & Technology Inc., China) performed to evaluate the patient further for occult gastrointestinal tract bleeding showed multiple worms throughout the small bowel (Figure 1). Interestingly, the se− quence of figures from 02 :31 : 26 (h : min: s) to 02 :33:02 showed a hook− worm sticking to and “dancing“ on the small−bowel mucosa. A total of 75 frames chosen from the sequence were turned into a video (Video 1) (Adobe Premiere 6.5; Adobe Systems Incorporated, Califor− nia, USA). The patient refused enterosco− py and further examinations because of poor economic circumstances. Follow−up showed good recovery after treatment with oral albendazole. Capsule Endoscopy Demonstrating Blood Sucking Hookworms as A Cause of Obscure Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Hookworm infestation will usually present with iron deficiency anemia. In this report we present a case of obscure overt gastrointestinal bleeding occuring from last two years in a young individual, requiring 50 units of blood transfusion. He was diagnosed with hookworm infection on a capsule endoscopy, which demonstrated dancing worms buried in the mucosa of small bowel and were actively sucki...

Background: Therapeutic and diagnosis properties of radioactive gold nanoparticle (198-AuNPs) cause them to be suitable for detection and treatment of tumors. Objective: Electrical and optical properties of PEG-198AuNPs were examined in this paper. Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)-198 AuNPs can be used for treatment and diagnosis of small intestine tumors. Methods: Wireless fluorescence capsule endoscop...
متن کاملVideo capsule endoscopy in small-bowel malignancy: a multicenter Belgian study.
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Early diagnosis of small-bowel tumors is crucial for therapy. Video capsule endoscopy has improved the diagnosis of small-bowel diseases, but data concerning the role of this technique in detecting small-bowel malignancy are scarce. The aim of this paper was to review all capsule endoscopy findings at Belgian hospitals, in order to evaluate the diagnostic yield of caps...
متن کاملAn Uncommon Cause of Small Bowel Bleeding from Appendiceal Carcinoma
Massive hematochezia caused by a small bowel lesion is a rare entity. Currently, video capsule endoscopy and balloon-assisted enteroscopy are effective in identifying the source of small intestine bleeding. Herein, we report a case of small bowel bleeding caused by a nonmucinous appendiceal adenocarcinoma with ileal invasion which was detected by video capsule endoscopy and single-balloon endos...
متن کاملMassive Obscure Overt Gastrointestinal Bleed: An Unusual Cause diagnosed by Capsule Endoscopy
Common causes for obscure overt gastrointestinal bleeding originating from the small bowel include small bowel angioectasias, Crohn’s disease, ulcers and tumors. In tropical countries, intestinal ulcerations secondary to tuberculosis and parasitic infestations have also been described as causes of gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a very unusual case of massive obscure overt gastrointestina...
